#ART: MATCHSTICK MEN BY WOLFGANG STILLER
While living in Beijing several years ago German artist Wolfgang Stiller acquired several head molds and large pieces of wood. After experimenting with the various components the artist struck on an idea to create several large-scale burnt matches where the charred remains of each tip appeared as the face of a human, a series he calls Matchstickmen. Astrid Krogh is a professional designer born in 1968 in Strellev, Denmark. She studied at the Design School of Denmark (Textile Department) and the Institute for Product Design. She works with the artistic potentials found in modern materials and new technologies giving them new functional and decorative possibilities to create miraculous forms, lights and colours. Working with light, both daylight and artificial one, is essential to her activity. Astrid Krogh’s work represents the moment of change and surprise; the work is always interacting with the viewer’s own movements.
